What We Do

The Washtenaw Food Hub (WFH) is a community-driven venture founded in 2011 with a mission to support local farms and small business, educate the surrounding community, and enhance accessibility to local food.

Our Objectives

Community

We support and supply resources for farm and food businesses prioritizing economic, social, and environmental well-being.

Empowering Farmers

Increasing income opportunities for farmers and creating new revenue streams for food producers.

Access to Healthy Food

Ensuring year-round availability of locally sourced food.

Entrepreneurship

Bolstering small businesses and stimulating job opportunities within the local economy.

Agricultural Education

Developing unique educational opportunities emphasizing the interconnectedness of agroecology, community connection, and healthy food.

To fulfill these goals, we’ve thoughtfully renovated existing facilities, transforming them into professionally managed spaces. Our offerings include commercially licensed processing kitchens, storage rental space, Sunflower Farm Market, events and educational programs (Purslane Commons), and ecological demonstration projects.

Several factors underscore the timeliness and economic viability of the Washtenaw Food Hub. Rising fuel prices, growing consumer demand for local food, and widespread community and institutional support for sustainable food production initiatives all contribute to our momentum.
